Did you know???

In the late 1700's, many houses consisted of a large room with only one chair. Commonly, a long wide board folded down from the wall, and was used for dining. The 'head of the household' always sat in the chair while everyone else ate sitting on the floor. Occasionally a guest, who was usually a man, would be invited to sit in this chair during a meal. To sit in the chair meant you were important and in charge. They called the one sitting in the chair the 'chair man.' Today in business, we use the expression or title 'Chairman' or 'Chairman of the Board.'

Process Writing

Tonight's homework requires a bit of listening of a process. Some of you may know how to do this activity, but have you ever had to explain it to someone else in English or better yet, write about it?

Watch the following video from youtube (see link below) and take notes. I'd like you to write up the instructions into a process paragraph. Don't forget to outline the important steps or you might not get it just right!

Good luck!

Welcome to Blogging

Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. This term blogging will be part of your course work. A blog is a type of on-line journal written primarily by an individual who makes commentaries on events in the world or their own lives. A blog can have no audience or it can be popularly followed by numerous fans. It's been estimated that there are over 112 millions blogs in cyberspace.

In advanced two, you will be required to make entries based on course work, classroom experience or random topics assigned by your teachers. There are numerous benefits for second language learners to blog such as writing practice, on-line writing practice (there is a difference), critical thinking skills and computer literacy skills. Most importantly, blogging is an excellent opportunity for you to extend your definition of "reader" to a wider audience - your community.

You will be required to read and comment on your classmates' blogs from time to time. Each blog should be submitted for a certain deadline; otherwise you will lose marks. Blogging on blogger is not private,Moodle is private; therefore, it is only open to your fellow classmates and teachers.

So let's get started!

To get comfortable using blogger, we are going to play a little game. Write 3 sentences about yourself. 2 Statements are true and 1 statement is false. Post these statements and have your classmates guess which statement is the false one. Afterwards, you can post the false statement in another blog.

Here are my statements:

1. I am a very skilled skier.

2. I used to live in the Netherlands.

3. I never text message.
